Although the Consell has announced a 40% reduction in public transport prices from July 1 until December 31, 2025, some users will notice a 35% increase in price compared to what they currently pay.
The reason is that the discounts announced for the general public will not be applied on the fares in force in 2025, but on the base fares of 2021, which were higher.
According to the information released by the Generalitat, the 10-trip pass in Valencia will cost €5.40 with the new fare system. 1.40 euros more than until June 2025, when its price was 4 euros.
However, if a 40% discount was applied on the current base price, which is €8, the cost would be lower: €4.80 for the SUMA 10 card for one zone. A 20% more after the reduction of state aid to public transport.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has gone from financing 30% of the discounts to 20%, while the communities will continue to co-finance the remaining 20%, as before.
In the case of the SUMA monthly pass for one zone, its price will be 21 euros after applying the 40% discount on the current rate. In this case, the last tariff in force will be taken as a reference.
Users will be able to recharge until June 30 at the current rates and enjoy lower prices until July 31, 2025.
Reductions on 2021 fares
The key lies in the starting point chosen to apply the discounts on the SUMA 10: the 2021 fares, prior to the entry into force of the unified SUMA fare system and the generalized reductions promoted by the central government and the Generalitat during the energy crisis due to the Ukrainian war and inflation. At that time, the bono 10 for one zone cost 9 euros.
During the last three years, these measures had lowered the cost of public transport, even to the point of offering total gratuity to those under 31 years of age, who will now pay again, although with a 50% discount, this time applied to the current fare.
The price of the new Móbilis 30 youth travel card will be 14.90 euros, compared to 29.75 euros for the current fare without discount.
Those affected by the dana of October 2024 will be able to continue to travel free on regional public transport until December 2026.
