Valencia will celebrate throughout this weekend the commemorative events of its patron saint, the Virgen de los Desamparados.
A program that will bring with it mascletá and castle, a massive concert scheduled for Monday 12 and the icing on the cake: the emotional transfer in the square of the Virgin.
This Sunday, May 11, 2025 is scheduled to be one of the most fervent acts of the festival, with a transfer on shoulders in which it is difficult to make your way through the crowd.
According to the official program, the transfer of the image from the Basilica to the Cathedral of Valencia will begin at 10:30 am and will last about 30 minutes depending on the pace.
Before that, the city will celebrate two masses, between 5 am and 8 am: they will be the Descoberta and the traditional Missa d’Infants. After the transfer, the Pontifical Mass will take place and in the afternoon the procession of Fallas and the General Procession from the Cathedral between 17:30 and 19 hours.
As a curiosity, this year you can take home a sweet with the image of the Virgin. It is “Les Geperudetes”, pumpkin and almond cakes that are sold during these days in bakeries in Valencia.
