The “Les Geperudetes” campaign kicks off this week in Valencia. Valencian pastry shops will once again serve this sweet pumpkin and almond pastry as a result of an initiative of the Bakers and Confectioners Guild of Valencia, which is now in its 5th year.
Valencia celebrates this week the events in honor of its patron saint, the Virgen de los Desamparados, and Valencian confectionery will pay tribute to her with a pumpkin and almond cake, round, sponge cake texture and powdered sugar coating with the silhouette of the Geperudeta.
This year, the campaign also takes on a solidarity character. Part of the profits will go to help the artisan bakeries of the province affected by the DANA.
As Juanjo Rausell, president of the Guild, explained in a statement, “this edition seeks to have an impact beyond the symbolic. We want to give a little push to those who keep going despite the difficulties”.
“Les Geperudetes are more than a sweet: they represent our gastronomic identity and this year also our capacity for resilience,” Rausell stressed.
