Valencians and Valencians, the 9th of October, the day of the Valencian Community, is approaching . On this date is celebrated the entry of King Jaume I to Valencia and the subsequent constitution of the Kingdom of Valencia. In addition, not only is a historical feat celebrated, but it is also the day of lovers, as it coincides with San Donís.
Therefore, before, during and after this day all kinds of activities are held, open doors, fairs, the baixada de la senyera of Valencia and the traditional entrance of Moors and Christians to the city to commemorate the day in honor of the Community.

Som de la Terreta” Festival
On Saturday, October 5, the festival “Som de la Terreta” will be held in Valencia,Alicante and Vila-Real. This event, organized by the Generalitat Valenciana, aims to highlight Valencian music, culture and gastronomy.
The festival will last all day. In the morning there are organized children’s activities and a gastronomic sample and, from 16h, will begin the concerts that will last until late at night.

Baixada de la Senyera and civic procession, the usual route returns.
The baixada de la senyera of Valencia is celebrated every October 9 since 1365. It is a procession that begins by lowering the flag of the Valencian Community from the main balcony of the City Hall and, from there, it is moved to the Parterre, in front of the statue of Jaume I. Once there, a flower offering is celebrated and the Hymn of Valencia is sung and returns to the Town Hall from where a mascletà is fired.
This year, the Procession of the 9th of October will return to its traditional route, since last year it had to be diverted due to works. Therefore, the procession will start at the Town Hall Square and will continue along San Vicent Street until it reaches the Plaza de la Reina.
Once there, it will enter the Cathedral through the Iron Gate and a Te Deum will be sung. When it finishes, it will leave in the direction of Barchillas street, to return to the Plaza de la Reina. From there it will start again along Calle de la Paz until it reaches the Plaza de Alfonso el Magnánimo, where the traditional floral offering will take place in front of the statue of Jaume I.

Mascletà and fire castles.
To celebrate the 9 d’Octubre as good Valencians, you can’t miss a bit of gunpowder and explosions. Therefore, there are scheduled two fire castles on the eve of the Day of the Valencian Community and a mascletà on the same day 9.

XX Entrance of Moors and Christians to the City of Valencia.
One of the most expected and multitudinous acts of October 9, Day of the Valencian Community, is the entrance of Moors and Christians to the City of Valencia. It is a parade that runs through the streets of the center of the capital with a trabucà, filling it with history, music and colors.
The event will start in General Tovar street and from there it will go to Paz street to continue along Poeta Querol passing Barcas to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to finally finish in Marqués de Sotelo Avenue.

Great medieval market
The Turia Garden will be filled from October 5 to 12 with medieval houses and stores. And this year the Medieval Market Balconet returns. One of the objectives is to teach how the objects were made by hand in the past and put in value this trade in a world where everything we have a click with the mobile. There will also be tournaments, music performances and children’s attractions.
In addition, as the fair is installed to celebrate October 9, one of the main activities will be the historical recreation of the entrance of Jaume I to Valencia.

Open doors at the Palau de la Generalitat.
As has become tradition, to celebrate October 9 in Valencia, the Palau de la Generalitat Valenciana opens its doors to the public the days before the day of the Comunitat Valenciana.
This year, free visits to the headquarters of the Valencian Government will be available for a whole week, from October 1 to 7.

Videomapping at the Palau de la Generalitat
Coinciding with the first edition of the International Mapped Stories Competition, on Saturday, October 5, the videos of the participants will be projected on the Torre Vella of the Palau at 22:30.
In addition, on the 8th, there will also be videomapping projections on the Torre Vella, every 15 minutes between 21:30h and 23:30h.
Drone show
Tradition and new technologies will go hand in hand during this October 9, 2024 in Valencia, and is that the night of October 4, at 21:30, dozens of drones will offer a show that will fly over the sky of the Marina of Valencia.

The best mocadorà of San Donís.
On October 9, apart from being the day of the Valencian Community, we also celebrate our own Valentine’s Day: La Mocadorà. According to tradition, men should give women sweets wrapped in a mocador, a handkerchief. However, nowadays, both men and women give it to their partners, regardless of gender. It is the sweetest holiday to celebrate October 9 and love.
Every year, around this time, the San Donis contest is also held , organized by the Guild of Bakers and Confectioners. The winning mocadorà as the best of 2024 has been that of Pastelería Aixa, with a tribute to the Fallera Mayor Infantil de Valencia.
Concert by the Municipal Symphonic Band
The Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia will offer a free concert at the Palau de la Música to celebrate the 9th of October.
Tickets will be available the same day of the concert at 10 am. You can get them both in person at the Palau’s box office and through its website.
