The 9th of October, Day of the Valencian Community, is approaching , and between mascletàs, fireworks, the mocadorà and other activities, the city of Valencia will be filled with culture and traditions.
Nowadays, it is still impossible to travel back in time, but that does not mean that we cannot relive what life was like in the time of James I.
That’s why, from October 5 to 12, a large Medieval Market will be held in Valencia to commemorate the day of the Valencian Community and one of the most emblematic activities of this festival is a representation of the entrance of Jaume I to Valencia.
The “Balconet Medieval Market. Oficios de antaño” will be located in the Turia Garden, where the green, along with the booths that will recreate an authentic village of the time, will create a unique atmosphere in which to really immerse ourselves in what life was like for these people centuries ago.
During the days, organized jointly by the Valencian Federation of Moors and Christians and the thematic market operator Balconet, we can enjoy samples of medieval tournaments, music performances and children’s attractions, among other activities. Perfect to celebrate the 9 d’Octubre and understand our history.
Re-division of handicrafts
This year, the market wants to emphasize the crafts of the time and vindicate them. They want to show that they were not only a source of income, but also played a fundamental role in everyday life. All the objects that were created were indispensable for daily life, war, agriculture or trade.
Moreover, these workshops were not only a place to work, but also a place to meet and exchange ideas. Therefore, by going to the market, visitors can learn in more depth what these trades were like, appreciate the skill and creativity of the artisans, learn about their techniques and tools, understand the importance of the trades in everyday life and appreciate the value of manual labor and handcrafted products. Come on, live a completely immersive experience in medieval life!
