There are so many geeks in the world that more and more cities fill their neighborhoods and itineraries with stores and activities dedicated to their tastes and hobbies. Valencia and its many geeky plans are a clear example of this.
It has been years since the word “freak” has been detached from the negative connotation with which it was used back in the nineteenth century, when people with malformations who worked in traveling circuses were called freaks: the so-called freak shows. Now a freak is someone who lives his hobbies with passion, a person who intensely enjoys the imaginary worlds created by geniuses such as George R. R. R. R. Martin, J. R. R. R. Tolkien, J .K Rowling or any author with certain acronyms that give him authority.
In honor of the reappropriation of that term that began as an insult, in this article we collect our favorite geeky plans of the city.
Solve the mission of an escape room
An escape room, according to its name in English, is a room from which you must escape. A room that you have to get out of by any means necessary. It is one of the favorite plans of the geeks of Valencia and, due to its great popularity, these have gone from being small and gloomy rooms to entire enclosures with surprising mysteries.
One of the favorites of Valencians is The Room Escape, inspired by the universes of Harry Potter or Alice in Wonderland, or ‘Hidden Evidence’, the experience formerly known as ‘Murder Mystery’, which invites you to solve a crime committed in Coven Carmen.
Enjoying your favorite soundtracks with Candlelight
There are many concerts. There are jazz, flamenco, pop music and even techno concerts, but the truth is that there are none like those offered by Candlelight, which offers a series of musical tributes by candlelight in emblematic venues of the city. One of them, dedicated to the most iconic movie soundtracks, is perfect for the most geeky audience. Highly recommended.
Play board games while having a beer.
For lovers of good board games but also of cool beers , there are bars that combine both concepts and allow you to play Catan, Dixit or Risk while you drink your favorite drink.
It is one of the most geeky plans in Valencia (and also one of the most fun). Or if not, just tell it to the regular customers of establishments like Bruixes i Fades (Rubén Darío street, 18) or Valentía Lúdica (Velázquez street, 24), which keep soft drinks and beers in their fridges and boards and dice on their shelves.
Gossiping about some of Valencia’s geek stores
If we have defined a geek as a person whose hobbies are related to sagas such as The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones or Harry Potter, we can define a geek store as one that sells products related to these worlds of fiction, fantasy and animation. In Valencia there are quite a few and all of them are highly recommended. The last one? Valenciagon Alley, inspired by the magical Diagon Alley of the Hogwarts universe.
Get to know the gamer novelties at the great videogame festival.
Valencia’s previous geeky plans were just the tip of the iceberg. Open World Now is, without a doubt, the great Valencian geek plan, and with great honor! Formerly called Dreamhack, OWM is the largest video game festival with the latest trends in video games, eSports competitions and presentations by streamers and gamers.
Buy a book at your favorite comic book stores.
Did you miss the Salón del Cómic, which took place last March? Don’t worry, in Valencia there are many comic stores you can visit if you want to find the latest graphic novels and superhero stories. Some of our favorites are Bartleby and Cartoon Corp.
Play a game of laser tag, one of the most geeky plans in Valencia.
Star Wars lovers are in luck: Valencia has several places where you can fight for hours with laser beams. Does this seem like a more sci-fi activity? That’s exactly what places like Lasergame 2.0 or Alfazone want to achieve.A geeky plan to do with friends or children, suitable for (almost) everyone!
