One of the busiest squares in Valencia, where you can still read the old signs of dozens of stores that populated it, will house a supermarket in one of these historic stores. According to Las Provincias, the Hijas de Blas Luna metal fabrics store, located in the Plaza del Doctor Collado, will be a Carrefour Express.
Like other historic stores in Valencia, traditional businesses are giving way to the proliferation of franchises and large stores. The French firm has set its sights on this enclave for its new opening, just a few meters from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lonja de la Seda.
The house was founded in 1886 and closed in 2020 during the pandemic. After 5 years without occupation, the premises will be converted into a supermarket, a similar fate to the one that has been subjected to neighboring premises such as the former headquarters of the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Valencia in the Central Market, which will soon be an Eroski.
