The Eroski supermarket chain is preparing the opening of a new store in the historic center of Valencia. Specifically, it will be located at number 17 Calabazas Street, in a small palace with a salmon facade that for decades served as the headquarters of the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Valencia, according to Las Provincias.
The building was designed by architect Antonio Gómez Davó, who also designed the Banco de Valencia and the Cigüeña building on Paseo de la Alameda.
The sign “Eroski, opening soon” is already displayed on the exterior façade.
According to Levante-EMV, the new supermarket will be licensed to open on Sundays between June and January, thanks to the high number of tourists in this area.
The building, which later housed offices of Bankia and Caixabank, has been refurbished for its new commercial use, in line with other recent operations of large chains in historic buildings.
This opening coincides in time with the recent conversion of the former Casanova oil mill, on Avenida del Puerto, into a fast food restaurant.
