Corpus Christi Festivity 2024 in Valencia: the whole program

Valencia will celebrate until June 2, 2024 the Feast of Corpus Christi, one of the oldest traditions of the city. During the month of June , the historic center of the city will host a series of religious events, processions and cultural events.

The Corpus Christi festival in Valencia is a religious and cultural celebration that takes place 60 days after Easter Sunday. This festival, also known as the “Festa Grossa”, is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the city and combines pagan and religious elements to offer an original cultural proposal.

It has been celebrated since 1355 and has historically been considered the great festival of the city, especially since the last third of the fourteenth century.

As every year, the main events of the Feast of Corpus Christi in Valencia are the Cabalgata del Convite and the General Procession. Both will be held during the coming weekend.

Another of the most characteristic elements of the Corpus Christi festival in Valencia is las Rocas, monumental and spectacular antique carts that are pulled from the Museum of the Rocks to the Plaza de la Virgen by decorated horses.

In addition, during the celebration, performs the Moma dance, which symbolizes the struggle between virtue and the seven deadly sins.

In 2010, the Directorate General of Valencian Cultural Heritage declared the Solemnity of Corpus Christi in the city of Valencia as Intangible Cultural Interest.

Thursday, May 30

• • 20.00 h: Solemn Corpus Christi Mass, officiated by Don Enrique Benavent Vidal, Archbishop of Valencia, accompanied by the Orfeón Catedralicio de Valencia, conducted by Luis Garrido Giménez. Corpus Christi Proclamation by Rafael Solaz Albert.

Friday, May 31

• • 09.00 h: Transfer of the rocks and the bestiary from the Casa de las Rocas to the Alameditas de Serranos.

• • 10.00 h: Delivery of pomells to the institutions to invite them to participate in the festivity.

• • 20.00 h: Transfer of the rocks and the bestiary to the Plaza de la Virgen, where they will be exhibited.

• • 23.30 h: Nit d’albaes and dances from the Plaza del Dramaturgo Fausto Hernández Casajuana to the Archbishop’s Palace, passing through the Plaza del Carmen and the streets of Roteros, Serranos and Caballeros, and Plaza de la Virgen.

Saturday, June 1st

• • 18.00 h: In the Plaza de la Virgen, representation of the Misteri de sant Cristòfol and the Misteri d’Adam i Eva by the students of the school El Pilar.

• • 19.00 h: In the Plaza de la Virgen, extraordinary concert by the Banda Unió Musical d’Alaquàs.

• • 23.00 h: In the Plaza de la Virgen, extraordinary concert of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, conducted by Cristóbal Soler, with the following Program:

• • 10.30 h: In the Cathedral, solemn pontifical mass.

• • 12.00 h: Cavalcade of the Convite with invitation to the party by the chaplain of the rocks, exhibition of the dances of the Corpus and comparsa de la Degolla.
    • • Route: Plaza de Manises, Calle de los Caballeros, Plaza de la Virgen, Calle del Micalet, Plaza de la Reina, Calle de Cabillers, Calle Avellanas and Calle Palau, and Plaza de la Almoina.

     

     

• • 12.00 – 12.30 h: Bell tolls corresponding to the Corpus Christi festivity from the Micalet.

• • 14.00 h: Mascletá in the Town Hall Square, by Pyrotechnics Valenciana.

• • 16.30 h: Exit from the rocks.
    • • Route of the rocks: Calle de los Caballeros, Plaza del Tossal, Plaza del Mercado, Avenida de María Cristina, Calle de San Vicente, Plaza de la Reina, Calle del Mar and Calle Avellanas, and the ascent to the Archbishop’s Palace.

     

     

• • 17.15 h: Departure of the murta carts.

• • 17.30 h: Departure of the giants and the dances of the nanos, the magrana and the Moma.

• • 19.00 h: Procession with the following itinerary:
    • • Exit the Cathedral through the Apostles’ Gate, Plaza de la Virgen, Calle de los Caballeros, Plaza del Tossal, Calle de la Bolsería, Plaza del Mercado, Avenida de María Cristina, Calle de San Vicente, Plaza de la Reina, Calle del Mar, Calle Avellanas and Calle Palau, Plaza de la Almoina and the ticket to the Cathedral.
