Valencia has, at last, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. We do not say it ourselves, but the assembly of the association “The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain”, which each year chooses those towns that deserve a visit within the entire national territory.
For 2026, the association has chosen for the first time a municipality in the province of Valencia to join the selection of the most beautiful Valencian villages, among which are Vilafamés, Culla, Morella, Peñíscola (all in Castellón) and El castell de Guadalest (Alicante).
This is Alpuente, known for its medieval layout, its Andalusian castle and its paleontological proposal based on dinosaur sites.
What to see and how to get to Alpuente

Alpuente is a municipality in the Serrans region, very close to the border with Teruel, about 100 kilometers from Valencia.
Located at an altitude of about 1,000 meters and with just over 600 inhabitants, it stands out for its medieval old town, where there are still remains of walls, towers and the castle that crowns the town and dates back to the Andalusian period.
Living here, according to the latest ads published in Idealista, can cost just over 7,000 euros. Of course, with a comprehensive reform in between in many of the houses available in the village. For those who don’t want the hassle, there are houses between 150,000 and 300,000 euros.

If you come to visit, the medieval aqueduct of Los Arcos, just outside the village, and the ethnological and paleontological museums are worth a trip to learn more about the findings of dinosaur footprints and remains in this area of the province, specifically in the environment of Corcolilla.
Add to that the different hiking and mountain biking routes that you can do in the surrounding area and you have an ideal family plan for any weekend.

The choice of “The Most Beautiful Villages of Spain” confirms that Alpuente is a perfect getaway, quiet and with a lot of history just over an hour from Valencia at any time of the year.
