Greek postcards and crystalline waters define La Barraca cove, better known as Portitxol. This beach in Xàbia is one of the best in the Valencian Community and the favorite of many bathers who, after thousands of photos on the social network Instagram, have made it one of the most visited beaches in the province of Alicante.
The fishermen’s houses so characteristic of the cove are to blame, well preserved, with their blue doors and pristine white facade. In addition, the blue and transparent waters are ideal to enjoy the summer.
This beach is found under the cliffs of the coast of the town of Alicante and blends in with the natural landscape, full of vegetation and local crops. In front of the cove we see the island of Portitxol, an islet of 300 meters with botanical and archaeological interest.
It is also one of the best spots for diving, due to its shallow waters and varied marine ecosystem. People often come here to swim or go kayaking as well.
Being a rustic gravel beach, it is recommended to access with water shoes and chairs to be able to sit without suffering the discomfort of the stones.
To access, you can do it by car from the Cabo de la Nao road or on foot down from the Mirador de la Cruz del Portitxol. In fact, around the cove, you will find other viewpoints highly recommended as L’illa, La Falzia and Cap Negre.
As always, these places gather a large influx of public during the summer months. Its 600 meters of length are quickly filled with bathers, so we recommend that you get up early to take a place in one of the best coves of the Comunitat Valenciana. The cove has restricted access throughout the summer.
By the way, if you are looking for a place to eat in this Zone, we recently discovered a gem on the beachfront: the cala Clémence restaurant with views over Barraca cove.
