The center of Valencia will host the next 18 and 19 October the 8th edition of TastArròs, the annual festival dedicated to the Valencian rice culture.
The Town Hall Square will bring together this weekend to cooks and producers in an event organized by the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin (DO) Arròs de València to disseminate the culture of rice.

For this there will be tastings of Valencian paella and gourmet rice made with the three varieties covered by the D.O. (bomba, senia and albufera) for 5 euros and beer from the sponsor Estrella Galicia at a cost of 2 euros.
In addition to its culinary side, the event will feature a full program of activities for all audiences, such as the installation of an urban “sequer”, a recreation of a traditional dryer in which 10,000 kilos of rice will be spread to show the historical methods of work.

The program will also include an interactive rice mill, an exhibition of boats and traditional fishing gear from the Port of Catarroja, live cooking shows (“showcookings”) on the “TastArròs T’Ensenya” stage, and live music.

Another year will be held the contest “Arrocero del Futuro”, which will take place on Sunday 19, where young cooks under 40 years from all over Spain will compete live for a prize of 2,000 euros.
A jury of gastronomic journalists will evaluate the texture, flavor, creativity and presentation of the recipes, which must be made with one of the varieties of the D.O. Arròs de València.
The “Llaurador més ràpid de l’Albufera” contest will also be held, a competition of rice milling skills.
