With the arrival of good weather, astronomical phenomena become more frequent, and the next one that can be observed from Valencia will occur this Friday. The “Honeymoon” will be visible for three days in Spain, reaching its maximum visibility and splendor in the early hours of Friday, June 21 to Saturday, June 22.
This phenomenon, popularly known as “Supermoon”, occurs due to the moon’s proximity to the Earth at certain times of the year. The name “honey” or “strawberry” is due to the orange or reddish color of the satellite at this time of the year.
Another theory suggests that the name is related to the honey-gathering season, although it has no relation to the marriage tradition of taking a trip after the wedding.
This Supermoon is scheduled to be seen at its brightest at 03:08 hours on Saturday, June 22. It will be visible to the naked eye, but it is recommended to look for places with low light pollution for a better observation, such as some beaches in Valencia or mountainous areas away from the city center.
Another ideal spot for the observation of these phenomena is the Zone de Aras de los Olmos where several observatories are located, and last May, it was possible to observe the northern lights that reached the Iberian Peninsula.
