The pedestrian superblock in the neighborhood of La Petxina in Valencia will be modified to incorporate 17 parking spaces for cars and 10 for motorcycles. This space, initially conceived as a traffic-free area exclusively for residents, will incorporate a total of 27 free parking zones (expandable to 39 at night).
The Valencia City Council has communicated this Tuesday, in an apparently contradictory move, that it will expand the zones dedicated to private vehicles in order to solve neighborhood complaints about the undue occupation of vehicles in some areas of the superblock.
These new parking spaces will be located in the loading and unloading zones, an area dedicated to the installation of terraces and a pedestrian zone on one of the banks of the overpass.
In addition, the superblock will be reordered with the delimitation and protection of pedestrian areas with new concrete Blocs, similar to the existing ones, as well as the repositioning of the closures, displaced from their initial position.
At the intersection of Calixto III street with Palleter, at Calixto III with Gran Vía Fernando el Católico and at Erudito Orellana with Palleter, these Blocs can only be crossed by firefighters in case of emergency. The rest of the time, this Zone will be exclusively for pedestrian use, with no private vehicle access, the consistory details in a press release.
As a novelty, a 25-meter “Kiss and Go” zone will be signposted on Literato Gabriel Miró street, with Palleter, in order to prevent vehicles from accessing the superblock to transport schoolchildren.
Two signs will also be placed at the accesses from Literato Gabriel Miró and Juan Llorens, signaling the residential zone and the maximum speed of 10 km/h, and four directional signs will be installed at the intersection between Calixto III and Literato Gabriel Miró to guide bicycles, personal mobility vehicles and emergency vehicles along the right side of the pedestrian zone.
