When we walk through Ciutat Vella, we quickly realize how many empty lots there are. What will happen to them? What was there before? To answer these questions, the Association of Neighbors and Traders Amics del Carme has created the project “Solars i futurs” with the aim of raising awareness about the situation of the neighborhood and create social cohesion among neighbors.
One of the activities organized in the framework of this project are the guided tours “Solars i futurs”. In them, some of these spaces in the neighborhood will be visited and the current problems will be discussed: of the 24 plots under construction, eight are intended for tourist use and only 4 for public housing.
These visits will be made by the most emblematic plots of Ciutat Vella and seek to deepen the urban development of these spaces in the heart of Valencia. Previously, they had already organized a similar activity, but with a view to the past, “Solars i memòria”. As in 2022 these guided tours were very successful among the neighbors, they have decided to repeat the format.
With this, they intend to return to the public debate the concern of the neighbors about the situation of the lots of Ciutat Vella and its repercussions on everyday life, since these spaces, according to Teresa Revert, architect and co-author of a study on the current urban situation of the neighborhood, “are an opportunity to revitalize the neighborhoods and fix resident population“.
This is a free visit, but given the participation in the previous edition, it is advisable to make a prior registration through the website of the Association.
