Traveling by AVE, Avlo or Cercanías can be cheaper if you do this little trick. Many users are still unaware of it, but thanks to the changes introduced by Renfe in its loyalty system, since this summer, the accumulated points are no longer only used to pay for full tickets: now they can also be exchanged for discount vouchers.
This saves a few euros for each ticket purchase, even if the full amount is not covered. Until now, it was necessary to accumulate enough to pay for a full ticket. If you did not reach that figure, you could not use them.
But since July, that has changed: it is now possible to convert the accumulated points into discount vouchers, also for hotels and companies that are members of the Renfe program.
This change especially benefits those who travel frequently from Valencia to other cities by AVE, Avlo, Media Distancia or Cercanías.
The new discount vouchers can also be transferred to another person, which is ideal if you want to share your benefits with family or friends.
How much do you save on Renfe tickets?

Generally speaking, every 10 Renfe points are equivalent to 1 euro. For example, a €50 purchase of AVE tickets from the website or app generates between 15 and 40 points, depending on the customer’s loyalty level (from Más Renfe Clásica to Más Renfe Platino).
Where to check and how to redeem your points?

You have to log in to your Renfe account and access the “My Points” section within the Private Area. There you can generate your voucher instantly to use on a purchase.
If you are not yet registered, signing up for “Más Renfe” is free. Simply register on the official website, after which you will receive a membership number.
It is important to enter it with each booking to accumulate points. These will be added to your account once you complete the trip.
