It is one of the most visited spots in the Valencian Community when it comes to natural pools, and as of 2025, it has been awarded a Blue Flag for the first time. We’re talking about the Fuente de los Baños, an idyllic spot in the interior of the province of Castellón.
Located in the Alto Mijares region , on the banks of the Mijares River, what makes the Fuente de los Baños so remarkable—beyond its crystal-clear water—is its temperature. It stays at no more than 25°C year-round, which encourages many to bathe there even in winter.
Its mineral-medicinal thermal waters come from the more than 6,000 liters per minute that flow from the spring. The pool winds its way through a limestone gorge nearly 15 meters high.
Nearby , you’ll find a gravel river beach—set to receive Blue Flag status in 2026—and the famous Fuente de los Siete Caños, an emblem of the area’s history.
Due to its great tourist appeal, the Montanejos City Council implements capacity controls for the area, subject to payment of an entrance fee of 4.5 euros. Eating on the banks of the natural pool is prohibited, and access with pets is also restricted.
For this purpose, the area has its own bar, where you can enjoy a drink without harming the environment. You can also take in the scenery through hiking trails in the surrounding area and from which you can see the pool in all its splendor from above—an impressive limestone gorge that rises nearly 15 meters and through which the waters flow.
Montanejos is, along with Playamonte, the only inland beach to have been awarded a Blue Flag in 2026.
