Many travelers are surprised when they arrive at a ticket machine for the Valencia metro with a departure or destination at the airport: a single-ride ticket costs €4.80. The reason is that the stop is located in a special fare zone, called AB+, which carries a significant surcharge on top of the base fare for the trip.
It is the only stop on the entire Metrovalencia zone map with this particular feature.
However, there is an official and more economical alternative that few users know about: the TuiN card, Metrovalencia’s prepaid card that functions as a smart wallet, and allows you to save more than 50% on the ticket price.
How the TuiN works

Unlike a conventional ticket, the TuiN is not loaded with a specific type of trip or by zones, but with a balance in euros—the minimum top-up is 5 euros.
When you validate the card upon entering and exiting, the system automatically calculates the zones traveled and deducts the exact fare corresponding to that trip.
The network’s fare structure is divided into zones: a trip in zone A or B costs €0.80; in zone B+, €1.60; the AB combination costs €1.20; and trips covering the AB+ zone, where the airport is located, cost €2.
The savings compared to a single-ride ticket are €2.80 per trip, nearly €6 for a round trip. And it’s completely legal.
A SUMA 10 card with AB+ zone coverage costs less than €3 per trip

The TuiN card only allows travel on the metro, but it is not the only alternative within Valencia’s integrated fare system, which includes EMT, MetroBus, and Renfe Cercanías.
The SUMA T1+, T2+, and T3+ cards offer unlimited travel for 24, 48, or 72 hours in the AB+ zone, which includes the airport, for €9, €14, and €17, respectively. This option is designed for tourists or visitors who need to get around freely for several days.
The SUMA 10, a 10-trip pass for zone AB+ for 21 euros, brings the cost of each trip down to 2.10 euros.
For regular metro users, the TuiN also includes a free-ride threshold: if spending exceeds 53 euros in zones that include AB+ during a calendar month, the cardholder travels for free in those zones until the start of the following month.
This benefit requires a personalized card that has been previously registered on the MetroValencia website.
People under 31 are eligible for the TuiN Jove, a version that offers a 15% discount applied at the time of purchase. Both cards (TuiN and TuiN Jove) must be registered on the Metrovalencia website and picked up in person at the customer service centers in Xàtiva, Colón, Benimaclet, or Alacant.
