The way to access the metro in the center of Valencia changes from today. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has completed the installation of new turnstiles access at Colon station, one of the main arteries of public transport in the city. These new devices will now incorporate the option of paying by bank card or mobile devices.
The choice of Colón is no coincidence. Located in the commercial heart of the city, it is, together with Xàtiva, the busiest station in the entire network, with nearly 5 million users a year.
How the new Metrovalencia turnstiles work
The installation of these new turnstiles seeks to speed up the flow of passengers at peak hours and, above all, to make life easier for the occasional user or tourist who will no longer have to worry about acquiring a specific Metrovalencia support. The bank statement of payment will be your new ticket.
When the latest software upgrade is completed, the new readers installed in Colón will be ready for validation by contactless bank cards , smartphones and smart watches and QR codes (on paper or screen).
This hybrid system is the same that was installed during the reopening of the new Paiporta station in June.
New self-sale machines in Metrovalencia
At the same time, FGV is renewing the ticket vending machines with 188 new machines in the network, including video intercoms and inductive loops for people with hearing aids. These machines also integrate contactless payment.
This investment exceeds 3 million euros and is financed by European Funds.
