One of the most anticipated moments of Christmas in Valencia is the lighting of Christmas lights. And is that the streets are filled with colors and darkness disappears, the city becomes magical and invites us to stroll through squares and markets.
This year, because of the DANA, the traditional lighting of lights has been delayed as a sign of respect for the victims of the catastrophe. Therefore, instead of being a big celebration, as it was planned until now, it will be a tribute to all the victims of the city and the Comunitat.
The lights will be turned on next Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 pm, almost two weeks later than planned. It will be the falleras mayores of Valencia, Berta Peiró and Lucía García, who will illuminate the “star of Solidarity” in memory of the deceased and in tribute to the thousands of volunteers who lent a hand during the catastrophe.
There will also be a musical performance by the Valencian singer Rei Ortolà and the choir of the José Iturbi Municipal Conservatory, which will perform pieces by Handel and carols by Alborch. Half an hour before the inauguration of the Nativity Scene mounted in the Crystal Hall, designed by the Association of Nativity Scene Makers of Valencia, will be held.
