If you have ever gone shopping at the Central Market of Valencia and rushed back home to leave the purchase without being able to take advantage of a few more hours in the center, is that you have overlooked a service that not everyone knows.
In the basement of Europe’s largest market are the refrigerated lockers, a free service that can be used daily from the opening of the market at 7:30 am Monday to Saturday until 9 pm.
These chambers allow shoppers to store fresh produce without having to carry it around all day and thus be able to take advantage of their commute for other tasks in the city. A proposal of great value for neighbors of the metropolitan area of Valencia.
The Central Market lockers can be used in two ways. Customers who make their purchases in person at the market can personally bring their goods down to the lockers after paying at each stall.
For those who have the Servicio a Domicilio card, the process is even more convenient: the market’s own staff is responsible for transferring the purchase to the locker, regardless of the mode of purchase.
In addition, card users can choose to pay directly at each stop or pay in full when they pick up the products from the locker, either in cash or by credit card.
How can I obtain this card? It can be requested at the Customer Service point or through the Central Market website.
Refrigerated lockers in other municipal markets
Russafa and Torrefiel are other 2 markets in Valencia that have this system of refrigerated lockers.
The Torrefiel municipal market has opened 36 new refrigerated lockers this month, of which 31 are refrigerated -five for frozen products and 26 for refrigerated products- and another five for products at room temperature. They are located at the entrances of Alemany and Llibrer Esclapés streets.
The Russafa locker has 58 lockers, of which 50 are refrigerated -10 for frozen products and 40 for refrigerated products-, while the remaining 8 are for products at room temperature. The lockers are available in the external stall area of Plaza Baró de Cortes.
