The Valencia City Council has approved the reduction of opening hours for the terraces in Plaza del Cedre and Plaza d’Hondures as a measure to reduce noise pollution in both areas.
The approved hours will vary depending on the time of year. Between March 1 and October 31, outdoor seating areas may operate from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., with hours extended until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of public holidays.
During the months of January, February, November, and December, closing time will be moved up to 12:00 a.m.
The decision comes after reviewing the arguments presented by two neighborhood associations—the Ciutat Jardí Neighborhood Association and the Plaza de Honduras and Adjacent Areas Neighborhood Association—and by the Valencia Hospitality Business Federation.
The new hours
The Fallas festival, which will be governed by the festival proclamation, and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are exempt from these restrictions.
The City Council bases the decision on the Municipal Public Domain Ordinance, whose Article 45 establishes that the maximum hours set may be reduced in justified cases, and on Law 7/1985 regulating the Bases of the Local Regime, which grants municipalities jurisdiction over noise pollution.
The measures will take effect once the agreement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province.
