The Valencian Community has one of the most paradisiacal beaches of the Peninsula. And yet, another summer will remain unvisitable. We are talking about Ambolo cove, in Xàbia, which has been closed to the public for years due to the risk of rockslides.
Located under a cliff and accessible only on foot, this Alicante beach offers crystal clear turquoise waters that can only be enjoyed from the sea. Its barely 300 meters long, formed by gravel and stone, are possibly the most desired piece of beach of the coasts of Xàbia and Dénia.
15 years closed to the public
And it has been 15 years since its closure, and the landslides continue. The last one, in January 2024, which caused great damage to the cliff, as illustrated in this report of Levante-EMV.
During this time, several attempts have been made to reopen it by placing mesh and reinforcements on the rock wall, but without success. On the other hand, the fence that prevents access has been vandalized on several occasions, allowing anyone to enter (although large signs warn of the prohibition and danger).
The only way to appreciate it from a privileged point of view is to make a kayak or boat trip along the coast of Xàbia. From the water you can perform activities such as diving, but always without accessing the beach from the sea.
In 2024 the Town Hall of Xàbia announced new access controls to the cove, due to the imminent danger of landslides. Since then it has installed a newgateat the intersection of Richard Wagner Street with Samuel Adler toreinforce security and prevent access to the cove.
