The Valencia City Council has announced this Wednesday the imminent start of the works of integral remodeling of the avenues Pérez Galdós and Giorgeta, an action that will transform more than 100,000m2 of the urban fabric and will affect more than 2 kilometers of road.
With a total investment of 23.9 million euros, this is one of the largest urban interventions in the city in more than 20 years, according to the consistory.
The works on Pérez Galdós and Giorgeta avenues will begin on June 30 and will be executed in just 14 months. On the web page dedicated to these works you can consult the whole project and the traffic effects.

The intervention will be carried out in phases and in sections of 500 meters, starting simultaneously from both ends of the avenues -between Campanar bridge and Cartagena street, and between Sant Vicent street and Jesus street- to speed up the process without closing completely to traffic.
During the works, one lane will be kept open in the opposite direction to the usual one to allow the circulation of EMT buses, cabs and access to residents’ garages.
In addition, alternative routes have been planned throughout the city, marked with more than 70 informative signs, 45 of which are specific to the detours.
Signs with QR codes will also be placed in doorways, stores and bus stops so that citizens can consult the updated status of the works and alternative routes at any time.
Among the improvements planned for the remodeling will be the installation of sound-absorbent paving to reduce traffic noise, the creation of three children’s play areas, and more than 6,800 square meters of green areas with 60 different plant species.
In addition, the existing bicycle lane will be replaced by a 2.4-kilometer segregated one, and 15 new bus stops will be installed, all of them adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The intervention also includes an increase in the number of crosswalks, from 24 to 26, with a maximum distance of 110 meters between crossings.
The lighting system will be completely renewed with 265 new lights, as well as the traffic lights and the sewage system.
