The Local Government Board of Valencia City Council will extend until May 31, 2026, the deadline for applying for subsidies to reduce the 2025 and 2026 garbage collection fees, with reductions of up to 30% in some cases.
The Councilor for Finance and Budgets, María José Ferrer San Segundo, has detailed the cases in which residents and businesses will be able to benefit from this tax reduction, which in many cases could be €10 on an average bill of around €90 for homes.

For example, with this change, large families and those with limited resources can apply for a 30% reduction on their primary residence. For the low-income group, the household income must not exceed the IPREM (Public Income Index).
In addition, the savings are automatically applied to those who already have property tax rebates. Tenants will also be eligible for these benefits.
The regulations will reward recycling with a €10 discount for those who use the eco-parks at least once a year.
Retailers and food distribution and hospitality companies that reduce their waste will receive a 10% discount. Businesses that use the municipal door-to-door cardboard collection system will receive a €50 discount.
The city council expects to issue a total of 440,510 bills to households and businesses. Official data estimates that 47.3% of households will pay an annual fee of €39.14. The average bill for households is €90.59. In the case of shops and businesses, the average is €243.02.
This tax is included in Law 7/2022, which requires city councils to charge a specific tax to cover the total cost of waste services. State regulations prevent this service from operating at a loss.
In the case of Valencia City Council, the amount is calculated based on the water consumption of each property.
Once the amendment to the ordinance has been approved by the City Council, the application period will begin on the city council’s website.
