The old Grau passenger station will be a publicly owned cultural center. The City Council of Valencia has signed this Tuesday the free transfer of this property that until now was owned by Adif (Railway Infrastructure Administrator).
The public company will give the city this space to expand the cultural facilities of Poblats Marítims.
Listed as an Asset of Local Relevance, the station is located at number 11 Enginyer Manuel Soto Avenue, opposite the Port of Valencia, and will be used for cultural purposes.
This protected building, which once served for the transport of passengers and goods in the defunct Grau de València station (in operation until 2005), has an area of 471m2 and a fenced plot of 972m2.
It is one of the first train stations built in Spain. In 1852, it was the starting point of the railroad that reached Xátiva in 1854.
Its design clearly reflects the Elizabethan aesthetic, with very characteristic stylistic elements. In addition, it was the third station to come into operation in the country and, as they point out, it is the only one of its kind that is still standing.
