The Valencians, as people who like the comboi, the festa and a good esmorzar, we are rather sparing when it comes to naming our municipality. While in Andalusia and Madrid they extend beyond 30 characters to name some of the towns in Spain with the longest name, in the Valencian Community we limit ourselves to 27. These are the characters occupied by Castellonet de la Conquesta, the town with the longest name in the Valencian Community.
This municipality of La Safor surpasses the rest of Valencian municipalities as the one that takes us the longest to pronounce (closely followed by others such as Santa Magdalena de Pulpis, Alquerías del Niño Perdido or Vistabella del Maestrazgo). This is not surprising if you look at the shorter names, only 3 characters long, such as Cox, Ain, Sax or Ibi.
What to see in Castellonet de la Conquesta

Locals refer to this town as Castellonet, although officially according to the Generalitat, its name is in Valencian and also contains the surname “de la conquesta.
Castellonet de la conquesta is home to just 137 people, according to the latest census data from 2022. Its streets, which are counted on the fingers of one hand, group in a few less than several assets of cultural interest, such as the Arch of Castellonet Castle, the Palau dels Marquesos d’Almúnia,
or the Ermita de Santa Ana, a building with a Muslim past. Its church, built in 1729 and renovated in the early twentieth century, is dedicated to St. James the Apostle.
As a curiosity we will tell you that it has one of the few Romanesque washhouses that are preserved to perfection in the Valencian Community. If you come to visit it, you can take advantage and see the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba, a jewel that combines Mudejar, Gothic, Baroque and neoclassical elements and that Netflix chose in 2022 for the filming of a series.
