At this point of the year, have you already lost the thread between so many hamburger awards? Before discovering the latest jewel of the Valencian Community, which is on its way to becoming a burger power, let’s recap: The World’s Best Burgers recognizes the best in the world (where the Valencian Hundred is the first), The Champions Burger seeks to do the same at European level each year; and in Spain the Spanish Burger Championship has established itself as the national and regional reference as far as awards are concerned.
Well, it was the last edition of this contest that recognized Temple Smash Burger from Castellón as the 2nd best burger in Spain, and the 1st of the Valencian Community in 2025 with its recipe “Las Vegas”.
The jury that chose it was formed by the food critic of El País, José Carlos Capel, the Michelin star chefs Pepe Solla (Casa Solla Restaurant), Fernando Agrasar (As Garzas Restaurant) and Iría Espinosa (Arbore da Veira Restaurant), and the gastronomic divulgator, Alejandra Ansón.
The professional jury of the contest chose it this year among 450 candidates for its balance and quality of ingredients. It is priced at 14.95 euros.
It is composed of two discs of aged Galician blonde cow (fat smash), American cheddar cheese, bacon, pickled onion and a combination of homemade sauces such as Texas BBQ at the base of the bun and baconcoa on the top bun. The burger is topped with an artisan brioche bun.
Temple Smash Burger is part of the Patiño de Castellón gastronomic group, created by Vicente Patiño Hernández, a local restaurateur.
His sons Vicente Patiño and Nacho Patiño are in charge of the business, which they have perfected after several trips abroad and inspired by ideas mainly from the United States.
Nacho Patiño is the one who creates all their burgers, both for Temple Smash Burger and Dublin House. This last location of the group bets for a more gourmet line in the elaboration of the burgers.
Perhaps the name Temple Smash Burger is familiar to you because of its co-creations with personalities such as the actor Pablo Chiapella, Joan Pradells or Joe Burger, with whom they have created ad hoc recipes.
The best hamburger of the Comunitat Valenciana 2025 has been served since last Monday, April 7 at Plaça de l’Escultor Adsuara, 4, in Castelló de la Plana.
