High-level sailing competition returns home. According to El País newspaper, Valencia will replace Cádiz as the venue for the SailGP Spanish Grand Prix in 2026.
The competition, considered the “Formula 1 of the sea” due to the speed of its F50 catamarans, will once again sail the waters of the Valencian capital, in the same area where the 2007 and 2010 America’s Cups were held, the Marina de Valencia.
According to the newspaper, the agreement is already a reality and has been approved by the competition’s highest authorities. Toni Alquézar, CEO of the Spanish team, has confirmed that the Valencia event will take place on September 5 and 6, 2026, the tenth date on a global calendar of 13 events.
The Marina de Valencia: a return to the best regatta course

The choice of Valencia is no coincidence. Russell Coutts, sailing legend and CEO of the competition, has opted for the cap i casal after four successful years in Cadiz, a city that, according to the organization, “had become too small” for the logistical and capacity needs of the event.
The races are expected to take place in front of the Valencia Marina. At the same time, negotiations are underway for the Marina to host the Spanish team’s permanent base.
Valencia will thus join an internationally prestigious circuit alongside iconic cities such as New York, Sydney, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, and Geneva.
