There’s an old saying among lovers of the performing arts that goes something like this: the cure for any ailment of the soul is theater. And while it may have been a long time since the first recorded theatrical performance in history (more than 2,500 years ago), it continues to captivate us just as much as it did on the very first day and remains just as therapeutic. That’s exactly why August isn’t just any ordinary month for lovers of the performing arts in the Valencian Community—it’s a special event featuring a festival with a charm all its own.
This Saturday, August 1, Sagunt a Escena kicks off— the most important and also the most magical theater festival in the Valencian Community. More than 20 different shows, including theatrical performances, circus acts, concerts, musical performances, and dance-focused productions.
Plays spanning all theatrical genres, designed to entertain audiences, promote culture, and honor the performing arts. What’s more, nine of these performances will take place on the most special stage imaginable: the Roman theater in Sagunto. A 2,000-year-old historic monument that has witnessed the evolution of this art form.
But it’s not the only venue in the city that will host this festival: there will be a total of nine stages spread across Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto. At some of them, the audience will even be able to join in the performance—this will take place as part of the Off Romà program.
