The Bancaja Foundation will celebrate this Monday May 12 at 20:30 pm in the Plaça de la Mare de Déu the 55th edition of the traditional concert Ronda a la Mare de Déu, with free admission until full capacity and the collaboration of the Diputació de València, CaixaBank and the City Council of Valencia.
The concert, under the baton of Cristóbal Soler, conductor of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, will be the closing of the celebrations dedicated to the patron saint of the city, the Virgin of the Forsaken.
In the musical section will intervene the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, the Orfeó Valencià, the tenor Vicente Ombuena and the soprano Carmen Avivar. The dances will be performed by the Grup de Danses Alimara of the SC El Micalet, which this year commemorates its 50th anniversary.
The program includes works such as L’entrà de la murta by Salvador Giner; Rapsòdia valenciana and La Maredeueta, by Manuel Penella; Canción veneciana (El carro del sol) and Alma de Dios (Canción del vagabundo) by José Serrano; and La del Soto del Parral (Ronda d’enamorats), by R. Soutullo and J. Vert. The Grup de Danses Alimara will perform Seguidilles d’Alfarb, a traditional dance of the Ribera region, and U de la Pobla del Duc, a local version of the fandango typical of the Vall d’Albaida.
This event began to be held in 1968, promoted by the former Caja de Ahorros de Valencia on the occasion of its 90th anniversary. Since then, both the Municipal Band and the Orfeó have become fundamental pillars of this annual event.
For more than fifty years, the Ronda has counted with the participation of outstanding conductors such as Ferriz, Garcés, Ribelles and Bonete, as well as renowned soloists such as Navarro, Sansaloni, Berganza, Cubells and Carmen Avivar herself.
This event will put the finishing touch to the festive acts in honor of the patron saint of the city, the Virgen de los Desamparados.
