Until now we knew that there were good Mexican restaurants in Valencia. What remained to be confirmed was for a Mexican to validate them, to give them the approval.
That moment arrived in 2024 for 3 restaurants in the city, with the debut of the Sello Copil, the distinction awarded by the Casa de México Foundation to the Spanish restaurants that best represent the gastronomy of the Aztec country.
Acapulco bar (C/ del Pintor Salvador Abril, 29), La Llorona (C/ del Pintor Salvador Abril, 35) and Rey Taco (C/ de la Tapineria, 9) were the first 3 restaurants in Valencia to obtain this seal.
Now, in 2025, two restaurants from Castellón de la Plana will be added: Peltre Cuina Mexicana and Los Chamacos. In Valencia, Doña Catrina, at 3, Portal de Sant Jordi street, also receives it, although the restaurant is temporarily closed.
What is the Sello Copil?
Sello Copil is the highest distinction awarded to restaurants for excellence in authentic Mexican gastronomy in Spain, granted by Fundación Casa de México in Spain in collaboration with the Mexican Academy of Gastronomy (AMG) and a committee made up of Mexican restaurant professionals.
Among the criteria that must be met to be recognized with the Copil Seal are some essential ones, such as the use of ingredients of Mexican origin, or following processes and techniques similar to the traditions in the preparation of the dishes.
Restaurants wishing to obtain it must fill out a form and wait for the anonymous visit of a committee of experts that will finally evaluate the granting of the seal. As of 2025, more than 80 restaurants in Spain have been recognized with this seal.
