Recuperem València cardsissued in 2025 were initially set to be valid for 12 months, but the Valencia Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATMV) has decided to extend their validity to 24 months, meaning they will expire at the end of 2026.
However, to continue using them, they must be renewed. This is already being done automatically by ATMV according to a set order when the card is validated on public transportation.
However, some cards may take longer than others, and you can speed up the process online or at authorized locations.
How to tell if your card needs to be renewed
The easiest way to check is to look at the expiration date displayed on the reader when you validate the card:
- If it shows 2026: the card has not yet been updated and must be renewed by April 30.
- If it shows 2030: it has already been successfully renewed and requires no further action. That date does not mean that the free travel lasts until that year, but rather that the system has marked it as renewed.
Two free ways to renew your card
If your card still shows an expiration date in 2026, you can renew it using two methods, both free of charge:
- Recarga SUMA App (Android):Download the app, hold the card near your phone, and accept the pending renewal. You can use the same phone to update multiple cards.
- Tobacco shops and SUMA sales points:Go to any tobacco shop, kiosk, or authorized retailer and ask them to scan your card. The renewal is done on the spot and free of charge. The establishment cannot charge for this service or require the purchase of any tickets.
Free access remains in effect until the end of the year
The ATMV confirms that the free use of theRecuperem Valènciacard will be extended until December 31, 2026.
When that period ends, the passes will be automatically deactivated and the cards will no longer be valid, regardless of the date shown on them.
In case of loss or theft, you will need to request a new card here.
