One of the best and most affordable panettone this Christmas is sold in Mercadona supermarkets. With two versions, one with chocolate chips and the other with raisins and orange, the recipe of the company Fartons Polo, which won the gold medal in the International Championship of the Best Panettone in the World held in 2020, can be purchased for less than 6 euros.
Specifically, the unit price of this sweet is 5.40 euros, for the two Polo recipes that Mercadona markets. It is a recipe inspired by the winner of 2020. This recognition, the highest awarded by the Italian Federation of Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate, is the first one received by a Spanish company, among more than 300 participants from all over the world.
Made in Alboraya, in the Fartons Polo factory, the version that will be sold this Christmas 2024-2025 incorporates some improvements, such as a longer fermentation time that makes it more tender, and the oranges have been candied for longer, as well as extending the hydration time of the raisins.
On its website, Fartons Polo details that the “Gold Medal” version of this panetone, priced at 25 euros, is based on an artisan production “with sourdough made in-house, fresh and nourished throughout the year”. Among the ingredients are wheat flour, butter, sugar, raisins, water, egg yolk, candied orange, fresh milk, honey, salt, orange and lemon zest, Tahitian vanilla, cream and cornstarch, or chocolate.
So if this Christmas you want to eat a good panetone, but not leave half your salary, without a doubt, Mercadona’s option is the best.
