The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an orange alert for Sunday in the southern half of the province of Valencia and along the northern coast of Alicante, with a special warning regarding the imminent arrival of the “Adam” cold front and the possibility of raising the alert to red. On Saturday, a yellow alert will also be in effect throughout the Valencian Community due to heavy rains and storms.
Forecasts from the meteorological service indicate extraordinary rainfall totals of up to 300 liters per square meter in 24 hours. If this situation were to materialize, the possibility of declaring the highest alert level—and even sending an ES-Alert to the most affected towns—cannot be ruled out.
The highest risk is concentrated in the south of the province of Valencia and in northern Alicante, with particular attention to the regions of Ribera Alta and Ribera Baixa, La Costera, Vall d’Albaida, and Marina Alta. The Regional Government has called on the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid traveling through flood-prone areas.
Weather conditions over the weekend
The storm is expected to last until Monday, October 19, especially along the coast and coastal plains of southern Valencia province and northern Alicante, but the AEMET has not yet issued official warnings for that day.
Alerts and forecasts for torrential rain and storms will begin Saturday morning in the south of the Valencian Community and will spread throughout the rest of the region as the day progresses. Sunday will be when “Adam” reaches its peak intensity and weather conditions become most unstable.
Meanwhile, the rains and the arrival of a cold air mass will cause a drastic drop in temperatures of up to 10 °C in some parts of the Valencian region. This temperature drop will begin on Saturday around noon, but it will be on Sunday when temperatures will plummet due to persistent rain and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h.
