Valencia will open its air-raid shelters to the public this weekend for International Monuments Day.
The Valencia City Council has scheduled guided tours of five Civil War shelters, a series of lectures, and free admission to the Lonja, the Serranos Towers, and the Quart Towers to mark April 18, International Day for Monuments and Sites.
The activities will begin this Friday, April 17, and run through Sunday, April 19, with the unique feature that the city’s underground heritage—normally inaccessible—will be the focus of the entire program.
Guided tours of hard-to-reach shelters

Throughout the weekend, small-group tours (by prior reservation) will be organized to five shelters scattered throughout the city:
- The Serranos Street Shelter
- The IES Lluís Vives Shelter
- Ripalda-Sogueros Falla Shelter
- Vedruna School Shelter – Sagrado Corazón
- Valencia City Hall Shelter
The Councilor for Cultural Action and Heritage, José Luis Moreno, noted that this is “an exceptional opportunity to explore these spaces, as some are not usually open to the public,” and encouraged citizens to “view the city from a different perspective and rediscover the tangible traces of a collective memory.”
The activities are open to the general public with limited capacity. Reservations can be made by calling 604 04 91 50 or by emailing didactica.valencia@galipat.es, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Free admission on Saturday, April 18, to monuments

To mark the occasion, on Saturday, April 18 , admission will be free to three of the city’s most iconic monuments:
