This morning, the Valencian Regional Government immediately ordered a lockdown and restrictions on movement in 145 municipalities along the southern coast of the province of Valencia and the northern coast of Alicante. The positive development of the storm has allowed these restrictions to be lifted throughout the region, with the exception of eight municipalities.
Bellreguard, Daimús, Miramar, Oliva, Piles, Xàbia, Pego, and Els Poblets remain under alerts and total movement restrictions. Storm Adam has left at least three people dead and more than 2,100 evacuated in its wake as it passed through the Valencian Community, all of them in the regions of La Safor and La Marina Alta.
Teams from the Military Emergency Unit (UME), in collaboration with firefighters and local law enforcement and rescue forces, have been working since early this morning to rescue and assist residents who have been trapped in their homes.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has downgraded the current alert to yellow, although it has also urged the public “not to let their guard down” at least until tomorrow, Tuesday. According to experts, even though the most critical phase has already passed, storms may continue to occur, particularly affecting areas that have already been flooded.
