The church of San Nicolás on Cavallers Street in Valencia will feature a permanent immersive experience starting July 1. The so-called “Valencian Sistine Chapel” will combine art, history, spirituality and technology in this new installation created by Global Menta and Mediapro Exhibitions, a division of the Mediapro Group.
The project has involved more than nine months of intensive work and the participation of more than 50 professionals from 28 different disciplines.
What will “La Luz de San Nicolás” be like?
La Luz de San Nicolás will offer a tour divided into 3 sensory experiences through a combination of videomapping, light, music, digital interaction and contemplation to learn about the history of this temple.
The first part will be a monumentalvideomapping on the baroque vault that will enhance the fresco paintings of the temple.
It will continue with an interactive experience with tactile totems that will allow to explore the history of the parish through animations and sound content.
In addition, there will be an art installation in the form of a digital stained glass window as a space for contemplation, focused on the symbols of the titular saint of the temple.
The technological deployment has been of an unprecedented scale for a heritage space of these characteristics. Highlights include 83 pieces of technical equipment installed, 14 synchronized projectors, 640 hours of nighttime installation, 200 hours of audiovisual programming, 3.8 billion pixels rendered and more than 1.5 million files generated.
The temple, restored in 2016 thanks to the patronage of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, is one of the ten most visited monuments in the city.
La Luz de San Nicolás will be permanently available from July 1, 2025 and can be visited during the temple’s regular opening hours. The entrance will be integrated into the existing modalities of visit.
