The Generalitat Valenciana has recently recommended citizens to have a basic emergency kit in their homes to face the first hours after a natural disaster with greater safety.
The proposal is part of the draft Master Plan for Analysis, Anticipation and Reaction to Natural Disasters, submitted to public hearing by the Second Vice-Presidency and Ministry for Economic and Social Recovery.
The document seeks to update the autonomic legislation on emergencies after episodes such as the dana of October 29, 2024, which left more than 200 fatalities in the province of Valencia.
This kit is designed for situations such as floods, forest fires, earthquakes, cold or heat waves, and even power outages, and seeks to provide each person or family with essential resources while external help arrives.
What should contain the emergency kit in the Comunitat Valenciana
Among the recommendations, the Generalitat stresses the importance of each person or family unit to prepare a survival kit following the guidelines of the European Commission. The minimum content it should include is as follows:
- Bottled water
- Non-perishable food
- Battery-powered radio
- Flashlight
- External batteries
- Physical map
- Whistle
- Pocket knife
- Identity documents
- Cash money
- First aid kit
- Regular medication
This kit should be stored in a safe, dry and easily accessible place in case it is needed.
