Authentic Mexican cuisine isn’t 9,000 kilometers from Valencia, but just 15. Every year, the Casa de México Foundation in Spain recognizes the excellence of Mexican restaurants outside the country with the Copil seal, and in 2026, it has included for the first time a bar in Catarroja that has been converted into a taquería: El Trompo Mexicano.
This establishment suffered the devastating effects of the cold snap in October 2024 that affected dozens of towns in Valencia’s Horta Sud district. It was October 26 when the team announced the planned opening for November 15: three days later, on Tuesday the 29th, the premises were devastated by floodwaters and the opening was postponed.
A year later, having returned to full operation, it now receives an accolade held by only five other establishments in Valencia.
And it does so with a menu that is very reasonably priced (tacos cost €2.60) but faithfully represents the most typical street food dishes of Mexican cuisine.
Margaritas, gringas, or burritos accompany their most popular dish, with prices ranging from 5 to 12 euros.
To come and try it, you can visit from Thursday through Monday during lunch and dinner hours.
The other Copil seals in Valencia in 2026

This restaurant shares the award with five other establishments in the city of Valencia: Acapulco Bar (C/ del Pintor Salvador Abril, 29), La Llorona (C/ del Pintor Salvador Abril, 35), Rey Taco (C/ de la Tapineria, 9), Doña Catrina (Portal de Sant Jordi, 3), and La Reconquista del Maíz (Carrer de Borriana, 52), which is also opening in 2026.
In the Valencian Community, the best Mexican restaurants according to Casa de México are in Benidorm ( Takeiro) and Castellón ( Peltre Cuina Mexicana and Los Chamacos).
