The calçots craze is no longer exclusive to Catalonia. In the middle of the season for these tender grilled onions, there are also places in Valencia, just a few minutes from the capital, that combine local tradition with this culinary ritual.
Bergamonte (Avinguda de la Mar, 25, 46137 La Pobla de Farnals), a restaurant that also specializes in grilled lunches, has an authentic Valencian barraca where they serve a calçots menu for €37 every day during the season.

What’s included in the €37 calçotada menu
This establishment is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, endorsed by a Solete Repsol. And it is maintaining last year’s price for this menu: €37 per person (drinks not included).
The menu is available from Monday to Sunday and is designed to ensure that no one goes hungry.
The experience includes everything you need to avoid getting dirty: giant bibs and plastic gloves, essential for peeling the charred calçots and dipping them in homemade romesco sauce.
Add to that starters such as grilled bread with tomato and aioli, Valencian salad, a platter of fuet sausage with longaniza sausage and cheese, and artichokes with ham.
The portion of calçots is 10 per person, with the option to have seconds if you dare.
The main course consists of a platter of lamb chops, blood sausage, sausage, chorizo, and fried potatoes.
To finish, Santiago cake accompanied by vanilla ice cream.
The restaurant advises that it is necessary to book in advance, as it is very busy even on weekdays.
