Valencia will increase EMT bus service next Wednesday, August 12, in anticipation of the total solar eclipse. The plan will primarily reinforce the routes connecting to the Malvarrosa viewing site, although service will also be expanded to other areas of the city in the days leading up to the event to accommodate the influx of visitors.
According to figures provided by the Valencia City Council, 30 new vehicles will be added to meet this anticipated increase in demand, and approximately 400 EMT employees will be on duty during the hours leading up to and following the eclipse.
The buses connecting to Malvarrosa are the most affected by this operation: lines 18, 19, 31, 32, 92, 93, 95, 98, and 99 will run more frequently and, during peak hours, will feature high-capacity articulated buses. These routes are already operating on a reinforced schedule throughout August due to the usual increase in summer demand for beach travel.
Line 25, which connects the city with Pinedo, El Saler, and El Perelló, will also receive support to expand public transportation options to the main viewing spots along the southern coast. Line 24, meanwhile, will have a specific monitoring and regulation plan to ensure connections to El Palmar, with EMT staff supervising its operation and adjusting the service according to real-time demand.
The service will be gradually ramped up starting at 4:00 p.m. and will continue until approximately midnight, when the last departures from the beaches are scheduled to facilitate the return to the city’s various neighborhoods. Resources will also be kept available to reinforce other potential viewing spots, such as Cabecera Park, Castellar, or the areas near Moncada.
