This Wednesday , August 26, one of the most international festive traditions in the entire Valencian Community and the whole country returns: the Tomatina in Buñol.
As it does every year, the town of Buñol will welcome thousands of “tomatineros” and “tomatineras” from all over the world, ready to throw and catch tomatoes left and right. In this edition—the 79th—a total of 150,000 kilos of tomatoes will be thrown, all of which are agricultural surplus or varieties deemed unfit for human consumption under European regulations.
This year , a total of 22,000 tickets have been made available to the public for €15 each. They can still be purchased on the official sales website managed by the Buñol City Council. Tickets are also available as part of various package deals that include a T-shirt, a plate of Valencian paella, drinks, and admission to the post-Tomatina party.
A special day for all the residents of Buñol, but also for the more than 13,000 tourists expected to arrive in this Valencian town from every corner of the world.
Official broadcast and children’s Tomatina
This year, the event will be broadcast in its entirety by Radio Televisión Española via its online channel, RTVE Play. However, there will also be occasional live coverage of the highlights (such as the departure of the trucks or the start of the throwing) during news segments on La 1.
Children between the ages of 4 and 14 will also be able to enjoy their own Children’s Tomatina this Saturday, August 22. The event will be held in Buñol’s Plaza del Pueblo, though it will last approximately half an hour. Admission is free, and the event will be held safely, avoiding crowds as much as possible.
