Both the Universidad Politècnica de València and the Universitat de València have communicated the cancellation of all their activities (academic and work) until Sunday, November 10th. The UPV has pointed out that this interruption ¨responds to the situation of force majeure¨, although they have not suffered significant damage so they will keep open some of its facilities such as libraries or cafeterias, so that students and staff can have these safe spaces if necessary.
On the other hand, the UV has added the cancellation of recreational and cultural activities, thus extending the suspension previously applied to teaching. Both institutions emphasize that these measures will be reconsidered throughout the week, depending on how the situation evolves.
Although the weather crisis alert has ended today, the two universities have emphasized that the humanitarian crisis persists, and have intensified their efforts to help those affected and coordinate volunteer work in the most affected areas through their networks and websites.
How to help
Given the magnitude of this catastrophe, many people require urgent help. Therefore, here is a guide on how you can collaborate in Valencia to support those affected by the DANA, with information on the different ways to contribute. Both the Politècnica and the Universitat de València have launched volunteer campaigns, fundraising and donation centers on their campuses.
The Universitat Politècnica de València has activated its volunteer team to provide support in the areas most affected by the recent DANA. Coordinated by the Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and Communication, UPV student volunteers are involved in cleaning and transporting essential materials, channeling requests for help from various local organizations.
The UPV has organized donation points on its three campuses (Vera, Alcoy and Gandía) on November 4, 5 and 6, with uninterrupted hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In addition, the Universitat de València has launched a call to its university community through a statement to gather volunteers who wish to collaborate in the legal-economic advice to individuals and companies affected by the recent DANA in the Valencian Community.
