Valencia has been selected to join the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series circuit in 2027, making the city the first—and, for now, only— European host of this world-renowned competition for professional triathletes. The IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia will mark the first time the capital of the Turia River has hosted an event of this caliber on the professional circuit—a recognition that comes after several years of sustained growth in triathlon and public sports offerings in the city.
Each season, the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series brings together the world’s best triathletes in a series of internationally selected events. Athletes earn points based on their results throughout the season, with a rolling standings system that culminates in the crowning of the circuit champions. On April 18, 2027, the Valencia event will kick off the competition’s European calendar.
The 2027 edition is already setting records before it even takes place: more than 3,300 race numbers sold in just 10 days, with more than half of the athletes competing in this category and distance (70.3 miles, about 113 kilometers) for the first time. Nearly 40% will be Spanish participants, the highest percentage in the event’s history. The average age of registrants (34.8 years overall and 32.9 among Spanish participants) places this event among those with the youngest participant profile on the entire global IRONMAN circuit. Female participation will reach 16%, a rising figure that reflects the diversification of triathlon in the city.
With this leap to the professional circuit, the IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia is no longer just a flagship event for amateur triathletes; it now shares the course with the world’s top specialists, offering local spectators a world-class sporting spectacle right in the heart of the city.
