Much to the dismay of some and the delight of others, the end of summer vacation is just around the corner. The heat continues to take its toll, but stationery stores are already stocking their shelves with school supplies in anticipation of the new school year.
The 2026–2027 school year will begin on Wednesday, September 9, in the Valencian Community for nearly all grade levels. Students in preschool, elementary school, ESO, high school, and vocational training will return to class on the same day, although some arts programs and initial vocational training programs will begin on Monday, September 14. Classes will end on Friday, June 18, 2027, for most programs.
The calendar allows for three days off to be allocated as approved by each town’s Municipal School Board and, as a new feature, the option to swap school days with non-school days.
This new schedule means that in Valencia ( and in towns with a Fallas tradition) , the Fallas week will last 9 days: from March 12 through 21, as the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th of that month have been declared non-school days.
When does the school year begin in the Valencian Community?
The start of the school year will coincide across the educational levels with the largest number of students, but it varies in some cases:
- Early childhood education, elementary school, ESO, high school, and vocational training (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels) will begin on Wednesday, September 9.
- PFCB and second-chance vocational training programs will begin on Monday, September 14.
- Adult education, vocational programs in visual arts and design, and arts programs in music and dance—both elementary and vocational levels—will begin on Monday, September 21.
- The Official Language Schools will begin on Monday, September 28.
Fallas Long Weekend: 9 Consecutive Days Without Classes
The 2027 Fallas will be unforgettable for the children of the city of Valencia and the Fallas-celebrating municipalities. The Municipal School Board has proposed declaring March 15, 16, 17, and 18 non-school days; together with Friday, March 19 ( St. Joseph’s Day) , and the two weekends, this adds up to a total of 9 consecutive days of vacation.
Although this proposal is still pending approval by the General Directorate of Educational Centers, the option is feasible by designating December 22 and 23 as school days.
Christmas and Easter Breaks
Pending any final changes, the Christmas break would have two different start dates depending on the assigned holidays:
- In municipalities that celebrate Fallas and declare the entire Fallas week a non-school week, the winter break would begin on Thursday, December 24.
- In the rest of the municipalities of the Valencian Community, the winter break will begin on Tuesday, December 22, as in previous years.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Thursday, January 7, as usual.
Shortly after the Fallas festival, the Holy Week break will run from March 25 through April 5, both dates included (12 days in total).
Holidays and Long Weekends
This year, most individual holidays fall during the first quarter of the school year, although officially no long weekend will last more than 3 days:
- Friday, October 9, 2026: Valencian Community Day.
- Monday, October 12, 2026: Our Lady of the Pillar / Spain’s National Holiday.
- Tuesday, December 8, 2026: Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
- Friday, March 19, 2027: St. Joseph’s Day.
Local holidays must also be factored into this schedule, as they are determined by each municipality’s city council. In the city of Valencia, Friday, January 22—the feast day of Saint Vincent the Martyr— will be a holiday.
In addition to the days included in the Fallas calendar, the Municipal School Board has requested that Monday, December 7, be declared a non-school day, with the intention of creating a four-day long weekend between the weekend and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
