Utiel will celebrate a solidarity milestone this weekend of more than one kilometer. Specifically, the streets of the Valencian town will be filled with bread, that of a giant sandwich over 1 kilometer long to be distributed among neighbors and visitors to help those affected by the dana last October in the province of Valencia.
Next Saturday May 31 from 20:30 hours, the City Council of Utiel will bring out its solidarity sandwich of 1.3 kilometers and will sell it in portions. 4,000 sandwiches will be served this day at a price of 2.50 euros.
How to get it? Those people who want to collaborate with this charitable initiative can already purchase tickets at the Casa de Cultura de Utiel and Agenda Utiel.
The main ingredient will be Serrano ham, which will be needed in industrial quantities for this record. La Tahona de Utiel will have 3,000 bars joined together to overcome the kilometer-long XXL sandwich, which will be bathed in the precious liquid gold of Aceites de las Heras and filled with the 60 hams donated by Redondo Iglesias for this occasion.
To accompany the snack there will be a choice between wine from Bodegas Utielanas or water from Fuente Primavera.
Utiel was one of the towns directly affected by the dana of last October 29, 2024. The municipality was completely flooded by the overflowing of the Magro river that day and the urgent intervention of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) was requested for rescue work and logistical support.
The death toll in the town was 6 people.
