Each species of animals has its own way of communicating, but sometimes, among the same family, the same sounds and languages are not developed. This is the case of the beluga whales Plombir and Miranda, the l beluga whales brought to the Oceanográfico de Valencia from Ukraine on June 19, which did not speak the same language as their new Valencian companions.
During their stay in Ukraine, the beluga whales coexisted with dolphins and, because of this, they learned to communicate through their language and not with the typical sounds of beluga whales. After their arrival at the Oceanográfico, experts did not know if they would be able to adapt with their new companions of the same species, but after almost three months, they are beginning to understand each other better.
Thus, from now on it is expected that both the Ukrainian belugas will learn the language of the Valencian belugas and that these will also incorporate new sounds coming from the Ukrainian ones, although they are typical of dolphins..
Rescue in the midst of war
Because of the conflict in Ukraine, Plombir and Miranda were in a dolphinarium in poor conditions and it was the Ukrainian facility where they were who asked the Oceanographic to rescue them.
After traveling more than 4,ooo kilometers, they arrived in Valencia with a very delicate state of health. However, thanks to the work and care of the experts, it has been achieved that they can return to have the quality of life they deserve.
