More than 100 years after its sinking, the Titanic continues to fascinate us. From its historic departure from the port of Southampton (England) to its final destination, its story has inspired books, movies, and exhibitions. Such is the case with “The Legend of the Titanic,” an immersive experience that offers an in-depth look at one of the most significant historical events of the 20th century. After months of success at the iconic Bombas Gens Center for Digital Arts, the exhibition will close in the coming weeks. After touring other cities such as Madrid, London, and Vienna (where it has drawn more than 800,000 visitors), “The Legend of the Titanic” has docked in Valencia with new interactive installations created especially for the occasion. These include a variety of formats that ensure both educational value and entertainment in equal measure.

What awaits us at *The Legend of the Titanic*?
The first rooms of the exhibition explain the sociocultural context of the era (1912) and feature accounts from the ship’s passengers (among whom were some Spaniards). These rooms feature examples of the passengers’ attire and an impressive collection of Titanic-related artifacts —originals from the era drawn from Juan Cruz Ercoreca’s private collection—that fully immerse visitors in the story. Plus, if you’re a fan of the movie *Titanic* (1997, James Cameron), you’ll also get a close-up look at some of the props used in its production.
“The Legend of the Titanic” also features impressive replicas of some of the ship’s most famous spaces, such as the first- and third-class corridors, the gangway, the lifeboat, and the ship’s bow—where, for a moment, we can feel like kings of the world.
This is Bombas Gens, where its enormous immersive room is a must-see. Inside, a 360° film is projected, allowing us to relive the ship’s construction, learn about the Callaghan family’s story, accompany the father and daughter on their journey, and reexperience some of the historic moments that shaped the ocean liner’s history. Additionally, The Legend of the Titanic will feature two virtual reality experiences to make visitors feel even more like protagonists in the story.
On one hand, there’s a section dedicated to the final moments of the Titanic Orchestra, where we’ll witness the courage and dignity of these musicians, who stood their ground until the very end. On the other hand, a stunning metaverse experience that plunges us right into the ship: from a tour of its most iconic rooms to the moment of the sinking, culminating in an unprecedented journey through the depths of the ocean in search of the wreckage.
“The Legend of the Titanic ” features an original soundtrack composed by musician and composer René Merkelbach and performed by a symphony orchestra of more than 50 musicians.
