One hour from Valencia is one of the most historic monasteries in the Valencian Community. The setting for films and series, as well as dozens of weddings, it is one of the least known enclaves to the general public in Valencia.
We are talking about the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba (Alfahuir), a space open to the public since 2005 that transports us to another era with its cloisters and 14,000 m² of interior gardens.

Founded in 1388, its architecture is a journey through time, blending Mudejar elements with Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles, a richness that earned it the declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 1994.
What to see in Sant Jeroni de Cotalba

During the tour of the interior, you can discover everything from an evocative orange tree courtyard and a Mudejar cloister to an old church with a Baroque chapel. The tour also includes rooms that narrate the daily life of the friars, such as the kitchen, the stables, and the chapter house.
In the outdoor gardens, there is even an old aqueduct, which is still visible today.

Although privately owned, the monastery has an agreement with the Valencian Regional Government that has allowed it to be open to the public since 2005. And also to the world of cinema.
Filming location for Netflix

The film industry has had its eye on the Safor region for several years now, with the filming of the Netflix horror movie “Hermana Muerte” (Sister Death) on the premises of this monastery.
Previously, it was the location for Miguel Bardem’s film “22 Ángeles,” Miguel Perelló’s series “Entre dos reinos,” historical documentaries for RTVV, and music videos such as that of Valencian musician Toni Cotolí.
In addition to its tourist and cinematographic aspects, the complex is also very active as a venue for private events and weddings.
